The 9D Breathwork Session

The Breathwork Session That Cleared the Fear

I carried the idea for Love Chimes for a very long time before I built anything.

Not months. Years. I'd had the feeling since I was fourteen, standing under a live oak at my friend Angela's grave, listening to twenty wind chimes sing at once and feeling like her love was still out there somewhere, moving. I've written about that. It never left me.

And I still didn't build it.

Here's the part I want to be honest about, because I think it's the part most people are actually stuck on: it was never a shortage of ideas. It was fear.

I didn't know what I didn't know

I couldn't design a wind chime. I didn't know what the custom details would even be. I had no concept of everything I'd have to learn before I could make one thing that worked — the cutting, the tuning calculations, the wood, the epoxy, the engraving, all of it.

I didn't know what I didn't know.

And when you don't know what you don't know, fear fills the gap with something very specific. Not this is hard. Something worse: you won't succeed. You can't do this. Who do you think you are.

Those thoughts aren't loud. They just sit there, quietly running the show, and they'd been running mine for a while.

The fear had a very specific shape

It wasn't vague. I could have written it down.

That I would fail. That I'd pour everything I had into this and it wouldn't work. That nobody would want what I was making.

And underneath all of that, the one that really had me: that nobody would pay what it would have to cost.

Because that was the honest math. A Love Chime takes hours of design conversation before anything is made, then hand-cutting, hand-painting, engraving, epoxy that has to cure properly before the next step can start. If I priced it like a wind chime, it would have been a hobby that quietly cost me money. For it to be an actual business — one worth the nights and weekends — it had to cost what it costs.

So the voice had a very reasonable-sounding argument. Nobody is going to pay that. Who do you think you are.

I believed it for a long time. It's the single reason I carried this idea for years instead of building it.

The Love Affect Studio

I met Chuck Roundtree through my friend Veronica, who posted on Facebook that Chuck was great at sound baths and that people should go try one. So I did. I went to his house, and I sat in a sound bath.

Chuck has a room in his home called The Love Affect Studio, and it's set up entirely for healing — the lighting, the ambiance, the whole feel of it. It's the kind of room where your shoulders drop before anything has even started.

Some time later, the two of us went together to a 9D Breathwork journey, facilitated by someone else. Chuck went on to become a 9D facilitator himself.

And it was at one of his journeys, in that room in his house, that I finally pushed past the fear.

If you haven't done one: you put a headset on, and what comes through it is designed to reach your subconscious — layered frequencies, binaural beats, spatial audio, a guided voice moving you through the breath. Every session has a different theme. All of them are built to loosen whatever negative or fearful thinking you've got a grip on, so you can get up and go be the person you actually are.

For me, they take off heaviness. Whatever I've been carrying that I didn't put down on my own.

Working the body, not the mind

This is the thing I'd say to anyone who has been thinking their way around a problem for years and getting nowhere.

Breathwork lets you work on the body, not just the mental. You move energy in the body. You move the blocks. You move the fear out of your body rather than talking yourself around it in circles.

That distinction is why it worked when nothing else had. I'd been reasoning with that fear for a long time. I had never once physically moved it.

And in one of those sessions, everything opened up. A whole rush of ideas about building a business, and — more importantly — the fear that had been sitting in front of them stepped aside. What was left was a clear vision of what this could be, and a clear sense that it was my next step.

The fear didn't disappear. Let me be honest about that too. It was still there. I just wasn't listening to it anymore.

What actually happened next

That session came right before everything else.

Right after it, I started researching. I read everything I could find about wind chime engineering, which is how I ended up emailing a wind chime engineer named Lee Hite and asking a stranger for help. He got on a call, told me honestly that he doubted my frequencies would work, and told me to go build it and test it. So we did. It sang.

But that's the second thing that happened.

The first was a room in Chuck's house and a headset, and a rush of courage in a body that had been afraid for years.

If you look at it as a sequence, it's almost funny how orderly it turns out to be. The breathwork moved the fear. The engineer removed the doubt. The prototype proved it. And then there was a business.

Take away the first step and there is no second one. I never send that email. I never learn what a 22.4% suspension node is. There are no Love Chimes hanging in anyone's yard, because a woman in Texas stayed quietly afraid of a thing she'd wanted since she was fourteen.

Where Chuck's work and mine overlap

I didn't fully notice it at the time, and now I can't stop noticing it.

We both work in sound.

9D uses layered frequencies, binaural beats and spatial audio to move something in you that words can't reach. Crystal bowls. Sound baths. Frequency as the vehicle.

A Love Chime is five aluminum tubes, precision cut using Solfeggio-inspired frequency calculations — 528, 639, 741, 852, 963 — hung so the wind moves the sail, the sail moves the striker, and the striker strikes the chimes. Five frequencies, each one carrying a different part of what a person meant to somebody.

Different tools. Same instinct: sound reaches people underneath their thinking.

That's why a room full of chimes over Angela's grave felt like a hug instead of noise. It's why a headset in a dark room can move something decades of good advice never touched. You don't reason your way into either experience. You just hear it, and something in your body responds before your mind catches up.

I build a thing that keeps making sound in someone's yard long after the person it was made for is gone. Chuck makes sound that moves what's stuck in a person who's still here.

We ended up in the same place from different directions.

If you're the one who's been waiting

If you've been carrying something for years and haven't started it, I don't think you're short on information.

You probably already know roughly what the first step would be. You've likely researched it more than you'd admit. What's actually stopping you is a set of thoughts you've never questioned, sitting somewhere in your body, quietly telling you it won't work and you're not the person to do it.

You cannot argue with that. I tried for years.

You can move it, though. Whatever your version of moving it is — breathwork, running, prayer, therapy, cold water, a long drive with the music up — go find the thing that works on your body instead of your reasoning, and do that.

Then start before you're ready. You won't know what you don't know. That was never the problem.

Chuck Roundtree facilitates 9D Breathwork at The Love Affect Studio. If you're in the DFW area and curious, go. Tell him I sent you.

I'm not a health practitioner and I'm not making any medical claim here. I'm telling you what one session did for one very stuck woman who had been sitting on an idea for most of her life. Our frequency language is symbolic and Solfeggio-inspired. We precision cut our aluminum tubes using frequency calculations and measure them to come as close as possible to the intended tones. We do not tune the tubes after cutting, and we do not claim that each finished Love Chime produces exact frequencies. The 528 Hz-inspired Love Frequency is part of the meaning, intention and emotional story behind each piece.
